Judith H. Burd

The Superintendent serves as Chief Executive and Administrative Officer of the school district and is the chief advisor to the Board. She implements policies adopted by the elected Board of Education and works with the Board of Education to establish goals for the school district. The Superintendent reports directly to the Board and, in this capacity, attends all Board of Education meetings.  She directly or indirectly supervises all persons employed by the Board. She has general supervision over all aspects of the district, including fiscal matters, instruction and programs. She supervises the overall operation of the school district and is responsible for the management of the schools.  The job of Superintendent, in accordance with Lebanon Township Board of Education policy, includes the following responsibilities:

To ensure that all aspects of district operation

comply with Board policy, state law and district contracts;

To report to the Board on the needs of the district,

To advise the Board of any changes or additions that should be made to its policies;

To provide the Board with information needed to make

decisions:

To prepare and maintain a manual of administrative regulations;

To evaluate the future needs of the district and

recommend a district action plan including goals, objectives, and priorities;

To evaluate progress toward attainment of the

district action plan;

To report to the Commissioner and the County

Superintendent of Schools matters relating to

the schools:

To establish an instructional plan for the schools

that is consistent with the educational goals

adopted by the Board;

To coordinate the implementation of this instructional plan as it applies to each school in the district;

To evaluate the effectiveness of the program of

studies and recommend changes and additions to

improve its effectiveness,

To evaluate the performance of pupils;

To report to the Board on the condition of the

educational program and facilities in the

district;

To keep informed regarding current research in the

field of education;

To recommend to the Board all candidates for employment, assignment, or transfer;

To assign staff;

To train staff as necessary to implement approved

changes in the curriculum in the district;

To evaluate the effectiveness of staff members;

To strive to make efficient use of district resources;

To evaluate the effectiveness of the district

facilities and recommend to the Board changes and improvements required;

To supervise the preparation of the annual budget

and recommend its adoption to the Board;

To implement the budget adopted by the Board;

To ensure that district funds are expended wisely

and efficiently;

To interpret the needs of the school to the public

and the concerns of the public to the Board.

 

The Superintendent is the educational leader of the school district.  She leads the building principals in their efforts to develop school programs and to improve educational experiences in the district.  She is the spokesperson for the district in contact with the New Jersey Department of Education.  It is her responsibility to implement state education requirements. The Superintendent is the liaison with the community, other school districts and outside agencies.  As the educational leader, the superintendent keeps aware of current ideas in education and is active in professional organizations.
